Active Matter Monolith and Harmonization Cycle Progression Guide

Active Matter has three separate progression layers that new players constantly mix up. The Monolith access ladder runs from Alpha to Mu and resets when you start a new Personal Timeline. Merits are a currency handed out as you climb that ladder, and they survive wipes. The Harmonization Cycle is the seasonal layer on top, and it is the only one that takes everything away.

  • Monolith: twelve access levels, Alpha through Mu, bought with Monolith Tokens earned in raids.
  • Merits: awarded as you hit access levels. Confirmed wipe-proof.
  • Harmonization Cycle: the seasonal layer. Cycles end, and a new reality begins.

Layer 1: the Monolith access ladder

The Monolith is accessed through the Monolith Access Terminal in your Shelter. It is a tiered ladder of unlockables and objectives, and the tiers are named in Greek characters, running from Alpha at the bottom to Mu at the top. Counting the Greek alphabet from Alpha to Mu gives twelve access levels.

Progress comes from Monolith Tokens, which you earn by completing raid objectives. Community tracking of the ladder puts Monolith Tokens on the Baseline Compliance Primary Objective in Isolated Raids, which is why solo PvE players can climb the ladder without touching Open Raids. Every level has both a token cost and a set of objective conditions, and the token figure is a cumulative total spent, not a per-level figure.

Access level Cumulative Monolith Tokens spent Objective conditions beyond spending Notable unlocks
Alpha 0, free None 10,000 Credits, Shegolskoe raid access, 30,000 Shelter Storage
Beta 150 1 successful raid each at Shegolskoe, Factory, Airport (100 tokens each to bypass) 100 Merits, Park investigation access
Gamma 650 Collect and extract 75 items (300 to bypass), 10 successful raids (500 to bypass) 350 Merits, Mirage body sleeve, Operative objectives: Agent, M4A1 blueprint
Delta 2,300 Kill 15 Invisibles (750 to bypass), collect 100 Active Matter 600 Merits, Warlord body sleeve, Fundamental Protocol cycle access, Raid Explorer: Epicenter
Epsilon 4,900 Kill 20 Dendroids and 20 Flowermen (1,000 each to bypass) 850 Merits, Operative objectives: Expert, Tier III chronogene synthesis, Thermal Drone, AK-103

The bypass costs are the important part for a new player. Each objective condition can be paid for in Monolith Tokens instead of completed, which is much faster than grinding kill counts. If you cannot find Invisibles, you are not stuck, you are just out of tokens.

At the final level, Mu, permanent unlocks become available that carry through future timelines, with one Mu upgrade purchasable per timeline. That is the long-term reason to keep cycling rather than stopping at Delta.

Permanent Monolith rewards cannot be undone

Asked whether players could revert a permanent Monolith reward if they misclicked, the developers answered that there is no such function for now, and told players to choose carefully before opening the door on the special Monolith scene itself. Read the reward before you confirm it.

Layer 2: Merits

Merits are not a separate grind. They are granted as immediate access rewards as you clear Monolith access levels: 100 at Beta, 350 at Gamma, 600 at Delta and 850 at Epsilon on the ladder as tracked by the community wiki.

The critical property is durability. Build 0.4.0.122, dated September 18, 2026, changed the item descriptions to state explicitly that Merits and Prime survive account wipes. That was the first written confirmation, and it is the reason Merits are the right long-term currency to bank.

The Agency also paid out retroactively. In a news post on September 18, 2026 titled Merits and Rewards, players who completed Monolith access levels and created new Personal Timelines between the September 10 update, version 0.4.0.76, and the September 15 release were awarded bonus Merits matching what those levels would have given. Players who reset progress at least five times during the first Harmonization Cycle received 10 copies of the permanent Red Shards weapon camouflage, with extra copies available in the Shop.

Layer 3: the Harmonization Cycle

The Harmonization Cycle is the seasonal layer. When a cycle reaches 100% Harmonicity, the universe changes phase and every player moves into the new reality once the global transformation ends.

The developers' April 13, 2026 Q&A lays out the pacing:

  • Each cycle should last around three months: one month of transformation followed by roughly two months of stabilisation, after which a new rewards policy begins.
  • Once Harmonicity concludes, one plaque becomes unavailable, Crystallised Active Matter payouts fall, and other rewards remain available through the current cycle.
  • You do not have to wait. You can discard your current progression, establish a replacement Personal Timeline and enter the new universe immediately, which reduces the global burden and hastens completion.

The two answers players care about most both come from the September 7, 2026 Q&A:

  • There is no global wipe at release. Asked directly, the developers confirmed there would not be a wipe with the release of the game.
  • Previous cycle rewards stay obtainable. Asked whether rewards from previous Harmonization Cycles remain accessible, the answer was that all previous Harmonization Cycle rewards will remain obtainable after September 15.

There is also a new system on top of the cycles. On September 24, 2026 the Agency announced the Fundamental Protocol, describing it as mapping the fundamental processes connecting all Harmonization Cycles and distilling them into a new unified initiative. Community tracking places Fundamental Protocol cycle access as a Delta-level Monolith reward.

What a new Personal Timeline actually costs

This is the question that stops people resetting, and build 0.4.0.156 on September 26, 2026 changed the answer.

Kept:

  • All equipped gear is moved to a temporary stash.
  • Items placed in the Shelter stay in their original locations. The Agency warns these can become decorative items and unusable in loadouts.
  • The Profile and Current Cycle sections now show how many Personal Timelines you have created.

Still lost:

  • Equipped chronogenes are discarded, exactly as before.

Reset anyway:

  • Your Monolith access level returns to Alpha, along with the token ladder and everything gated behind it.

The practical read: since September 26, 2026 a reset is no longer a gear-loss event. It is a progression-restart event. If you are early and the gear hurts, reset freely. If you are at Delta or above and holding a Warlord body sleeve or a Fundamental Protocol cycle access, weigh it. For how the tokens themselves convert, see the Active Matter currency guide.

Reach Epsilon before your first reset

Climb to Epsilon before your first reset if you can. It unlocks Tier III chronogene synthesis and the Expert operative objective rank, both of which are much harder to reach again than Alpha through Delta because the token costs are cumulative. The first raid guide is a reasonable place to start if you have not run Baseline Compliance yet.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Monolith, Merits and the Harmonization Cycle? The Monolith is the in-raid progression ladder from Alpha to Mu, bought with Monolith Tokens from raid objectives. Merits are a currency awarded as you climb that ladder. The Harmonization Cycle is the seasonal layer that ends seasons and moves everyone to a new phase of the universe.

How many Monolith access levels are there? The ladder runs in Greek letters from Alpha to Mu, which is twelve access levels. Alpha is free, and the token costs are cumulative: 150 at Beta, 650 at Gamma, 2,300 at Delta and 4,900 at Epsilon.

What survives a Harmonization Cycle wipe? Merits and Prime. Patch 0.4.0.122 on September 18, 2026 made the item descriptions state explicitly that both survive account wipes. Everything else on the Monolith ladder resets to Alpha.

Do I lose my old Harmonization Cycle rewards? No. The developers confirmed on September 7, 2026 that all previous Harmonization Cycle rewards remain obtainable after September 15. One exception named in the April 2026 Q&A is that one plaque becomes unavailable once Harmonicity concludes.

Can I undo a permanent Monolith reward if I pick the wrong one? No. The developers were asked and said there is no revert function for now, and advised choosing carefully before opening the door on the special Monolith scene.

Do I still lose all my gear when I create a new Personal Timeline? No, not since build 0.4.0.156 on September 26, 2026. Equipped gear goes to a temporary stash and Shelter items stay in place, though they may become unusable in loadouts. Equipped chronogenes are still discarded.

How long does a Harmonization Cycle last? Around three months, according to the April 13, 2026 developer Q&A: roughly one month of transformation and two months of stabilisation, after which a new rewards policy begins. You can skip ahead by establishing a replacement Personal Timeline.
